Notes From Plague Island Is Growing — Thank You
Over the past few months, Notes From Plague Island has grown faster than we ever imagined. What began as two people writing through the fog of the world has become a real community, and we want to begin by saying something simple and heartfelt:
Thank you.
To our paid subscribers:
Your support genuinely sustains the work we do. Every subscription tells us this work matters, and that the hours spent researching, writing, editing, thinking, arguing, cross-checking, and wrestling with ideas are worth it. You keep this project alive, independent, and unfiltered. We cannot thank you enough.
To our free readers:
We see you too. Every like, every share, every comment, it all helps more than you know. Many of you have been here since the early days, and your presence is part of what has made this such a vibrant space.
We want everyone to feel welcome here. And we also want Notes From Plague Island to remain sustainable so that we can keep doing this work long into the future.
A Change to Our Paywall Policy
Until now, all posts older than 12 months have been fully accessible to free subscribers. As we grow, and as more of our longer investigative pieces are being widely shared, we need to adjust this approach.
Going forward:
Articles older than 6 months will become available to paid subscribers only.
Why?
Because our archive is becoming one of the most valuable parts of this project:
deep dives into authoritarianism
long-form analysis of Trumpworld and the tech oligarchs
essays on Gaza, democracy, and political power
interconnected series like ‘The Dark Enlightenment’
These pieces continue to travel as we write more than we’ve ever written before, and continue to demand the kind of time and research that only reader support can enable.
Nothing will change for our paid readers.
You will still have full access to everything in the archive, as well as every new article, Letter, and deep-dive we publish.
For free readers, nothing disappears, it simply moves behind the paywall six months after publication. There will still be plenty to read and be involved with.
Why Your Support Matters
We write independently.
We take no advertising.
We follow no party line.
We cite every reference.
And we write what we believe needs saying, not what is convenient or fashionable.
Paid subscriptions allow us to continue:
researching real sources
reading far too many books
watching every unhinged rally so you don’t have to
analysing developments on both sides of the Atlantic
calling out the predator class without looking over our shoulder
offering political writing that is serious, accessible, and unflinchingly honest
If you value that kind of work, consider joining us.
A subscription costs about the price of one coffee a month, and means more to us than you know.

Thank You, truly.
Whether you’re here as a paid reader, a free reader, or someone deciding whether to take the leap, thank you for reading, for thinking, and for being part of this small island of resistance.
Every one of you makes the light a little brighter.
We are millions of tiny lights,
~L&A
